Murals fO₂r Madrid, an open-air museum that reduces pollution

Client

On October 18, we inaugurated, together with the Madrid City Council and Ecoembes, the first piece of “Murales fO2r Madrid,” a large open-air museum that raises awareness about recycling and helps reduce pollution. "Corazón" (Heart) is the title of the first mural—1,700 m² surrounding the Villaverde Market—created by the Madrid-based art collective Boa Mistura.

The project was designed to be a symbol of sustainability in the city. That is why all the works use photocatalytic paints, which absorb CO2 (and other pollutants such as NOx, SOx, VOCs, CO...) and transform it into O2 during the useful life of the paint. Also with zero-emission paints, which ensure carbon-neutral production. The idea is to provide the city with small sustainable environments in an artistic key, promoting sustainability, coexistence and care for the environment.

This permanent exhibition, which seeks to make the circular economy part of Madrid's culture, reaches the 21 districts thanks to works by prestigious artists that are gradually being unveiled. It is a decentralized project throughout the city that brings art to the neighborhoods.

On the website created for the project, each mural can be visited, as they all incorporate a QR code to complement the physical visit with an interactive digital exhibition: audio guide, photos, interviews with the artists and more.
